మన మతంలో మన సంస్కృతిలో అత్యంత ముఖ్యమైన సంస్కృత పదాలలో ఒకటి.

దీనిని ఇంకేభాషలోనికి అనువదించడం సాధ్యంకాదు. 

సనాతన ధర్మం, వర్ణ ధర్మం, ఆశ్రమధర్మం, రాజ ధర్మం, ధర్మ దేవత, సహజ ధర్మం, ధర్మ కర్మ, పురుషార్థాలలో ధర్మం, ధర్మ శాస్త్రం ఇలా అనేక సందర్భాలలో అనేక అర్థాలు సంతరించుకుంటుంది ఈ పదం. శ్రీరామ శ్రీ కృష్ణులు ధర్మానికి ఉదాహరణలు. రామో విగ్రహవాన్ ధర్మః, శ్రీరాముడు మూర్తీభవించిన ధర్మం. ఆయన వాలిని చంపినా, తాటకను చంపినా, రావణుని చంపినా, శంబూకుని చంపినా, సీతను అగ్నిప్రవేశంచేయమనినా, నిండు చూలాలైన సీతను అరణ్యవాసానికి పంపినా మనం మనకై ఇచ్చిన హేతువాదమంతా అర్థంలేనిది. దాని అర్థం ఒకటే - మనకు ధర్మంఅంటే ఏమిటో అర్థం కాలేదనే. యదా యదాహి ధర్మస్య గ్లానిర్భవతి - 

ఎప్పుడు ధర్మ గ్లాని సంభవిస్తుందో అప్పుడు యుగే యుగే అవతరిస్తానని

కృష్ణపరమాత్మ ఉవాచ. 

రాముడు కృష్ణుడు అలా భూమిపై అవతరించినవారే.

ధర్మ మంటే ఏమిటి? धरति लोकान् ध्रियते पुण्यात्मभिरिति वा లోకములో అన్నిటిచేత ధరింపబడేది ధర్మము. పుణ్యం, శ్రేయస్సు, సుకృతం - ధర్మానికి పర్యాయ పదాలని అమర కోశం చెబుతుంది. ఆచారం, స్వభావం, క్రతువు ధర్మమని ధర్మ శాస్త్రం చెబుతుంది. అహింస పరమ ధర్మమని ఉపనిషద్ వాక్యము. ఇదే జైన , బౌద్ధాలుకూడా స్వీకరించాయి. దానం, ధర్మం చేయదగిన కర్మలని యోగ సారం చెబుతుంది. प्राणायामस्तथा ध्यानं प्रत्याहारोऽथ धारणा । स्मरणञ्चैव योगेऽस्मिन् पञ्च धर्म्माः प्रकीर्त्तिताः ధర్మ దేవత యమునికి మరోపేరు.

ధర్మ పత్ని ధర్మా చరణలో సహధర్మ చారిణి. ధర్మాదికారి అంటే న్యాయ మూర్తి. ధర్మాసనం - Seat of Justice, Bench 

1. Dharma varies from context to context from person to person, Yuga to Yuga. Dharma is not like a steel rod which is not flexible. Dharma is highly flexible. For example to kill somebody in some context may be Dharma. In the same way in another context to save somebody may be Dharma. Both are Dharma. ధర్మం సందర్భానుసారము మారుతుంది. (not a rigid rule) యుగాన్ని బట్టి, దేశాన్ని బట్టి మారుతుంది. ఒక సమయంలో చంపడం ధర్మం. ఒక సందర్భంలో రక్షించడం ధర్మము.

2. Dharma is appropriateness in thought, action, attitude and judgment to a thing or a happening or a desire or an incident in life. ధర్మమంటే సందర్భోచితమైన ఆలోచన, క్రియ, దృక్పథం, నిర్ణయం, అది అప్పటి పరిస్థితి, సమయం, లక్ష్యం, మొదలైన వానిపై ఆధార పడుతుంది

3. Unless Dharma is protected all around, we will not get the ideal atmosphere to live in. Unless we abide by Dharma, we cannot contribute to it. So, for the sake of the society or the country, we should live in Dharma and only when it is protected all around, it is possible. So, for the sake of the society or the country, we should live in Dharma and only when it is protected all around, it is possible. ధర్మ సంరక్షణ జరిగితేగాని మనం నివసించే వాతావరణం పరిశుభ్రంగా ఉండదు. మనం వ్యక్తిగతంగా ధర్మ మార్గంలో ఉంటే తప్ప మనం ధర్మ సంరక్షణకు తోడుపడలేం. సమాజ హితం, దేశహితంకోసము ప్రతివ్యక్తి ధర్మ మార్గంలో నడవాలి

4. Adharma must be totally avoided. Dharma is a positive direction. You may or may not be able to follow that path. Not indulging in Adharma is the primary responsibility for one and all. If Adharma is practiced it does not kill you alone. It is the poison in the air, water and kills anyone.

అధర్మమును పూర్తిగా పరిహరించాలి. ధర్మాచరణ అనేది ఒక మార్గం, నడవ వలసిన ఒక దిశ. అధర్మ వర్తన ఆ వ్యక్తినే కాక చుట్టూ ఉన్న వాతావరణాన్ని, సమాజాన్ని దహిస్తుంది.
